vinktar_vs_sentry

Vinktar and Sentry

They defined this category and most of the world is already instrumented with their SDK — including, by design, anyone moving to us. Below about 425,000 errors a month they are also cheaper.

what_they_do_better

Where Sentry is the stronger product.

  • Deeper error tracking than ours, by a distance

Tracing and spans, profiling, session replay, cron and uptime monitors, release health, and Seer for automated root-cause. We do error grouping, source maps, releases and alerting. That is a smaller product.

  • Cheaper below roughly 425,000 errors a month

Their $26 Team plan carries 50k errors and meters from there. Do the arithmetic and their line stays under our flat $99 until about 425k. Our calculator will tell you the same thing.

  • Over a hundred official SDKs

Every language and framework you are likely to be running, maintained by them. We accept their protocol precisely because we could never match that.

  • The safe institutional choice

A large company with SOC 2, an EU region and years of track record. If your security review asks who else uses it, that question has a much better answer than ours does.

what_we_do_better

Where we are.

  • Product analytics in the same tier

Trends, funnels, retention and SQL over the same warehouse the errors land in. With Sentry that is a second vendor and a second bill.

  • Flat above the crossover

Past roughly 425k errors our price stops moving and theirs does not. Sentry meters errors, spans, replays, logs and metrics separately, so a bad week compounds across categories.

  • One line to try it

Change the DSN. Your Sentry SDK, your existing instrumentation, no code change — run both in parallel for a week and compare.

  • One line to leave, too

The same property in reverse. Point the DSN back and nothing in your codebase has to change, which is the honest answer to trusting a small vendor.

which_one

Which one, then.

buy sentry

Under ~425k errors a month, or any time you need tracing, profiling, session replay or cron monitoring. Also when a procurement process needs a vendor with certifications we do not have.

buy vinktar

Above the crossover, and especially if you are already paying separately for analytics. One flat tier replaces both lines.

the_verdict

Be clear about the boundary before you switch: our Sentry-compatible endpoint accepts error events and discards transactions, sessions, replays and attachments. If you rely on Sentry tracing, we do not replace it — and a week running both in parallel will tell you that faster than we can.
